The 83rd year of Far Eastern Univerty’s unyielding  excellence.
By Aldlyn Kate Tomampo
Way back 2010, being a freshman in college makes you feel the excitement of everything that is happening in your surroundings, especially in school. Consider  the new place, people and friends.  As far as I can remember, when I’ve heard the news that FEU is celebrating its 82nd year (that time) that is called Concierto Piyu (Piyu, a slang term for FEU), first thing I did was to invite all my  friends to join me watch the said concert. I was very, very eager to watch it because Vice Ganda and SpongeCola are the ones who will be performing. After that, I was very satisfied, happy and all. ‘Twas superb and unforgettable!
January 21, 2011. Far Eastern University’s 83rd year. The most awaited event of the year for us every Tamaraw.  Some of my friends are thrilled when they heard that Pupil and Callaliy will be performing. The excitement that they were feeling was added when they heard that Vice Ganda will come for the second time again. Chris Tsuper of 90.7 Love Radio and Jasmin Bazaar of WWR 101.9 will be hosting the event. This time, I was not that excited and all. Honestly, I have no plans to watch the said concert because my other half doesn’t want us to watch. So, there. Being a good girlfriend, I follow what he said. I didn’t go even though our friends are forcing me to.
The said event started at exactly 6pm. I know this even if I didn’t go because all of the people are informing us before the concert. I didn’t go to school because I have nothing to do there. So yah, I just stayed home. I texted my friends on what was happening, I logged in on facebook, and to my dismay, I saw their statuses that the concert was cancelled because of heavy rains. Good thing, I didn’t come. Bad thing, they are all wet, waited for nothing and just wasted time. I hope 84th year will be a big bash. “Bawi nalang!” :)

Comes First.

"Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter."
- Brad Henry
 by Aldlyn Kate Tomampo

If I were in the shoes of the girl with a green scarf, my column would probably be about my family. Family are the ones who support you whatever the decisions in life you encounter. They are the ones who gives you the advices that are very much good to you. They are the ones who picks you when you are down.
My family is my strength and my weakness. They give me the power and the will to survive my everyday living. My parents are the reason why I go to school everyday. They are the reason why I much want high grades, for them to be really very proud of me. They are the reason why I strive hard, because after I graduated and have my own work, I want them to have the life that they deserve.
Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter. You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them.

"Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family: Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one."

- Jane Howard
Admit it. When we have a problem, we always took advices from our friends. We rarely seek it from our family/parents. But believe me, they are the best advisers ever! I already did something awful way back when I was younger. At first, they got very, very mad. My mom nearly got to hospitalize, but I sincerely asked for my forgiveness and promised I won't do it again. They are your shoulders when you need to cry to. Families are always there to guide you.

“I can get up in the morning and look myself in the mirror and my family can look at me too and that's all that matters.”

A not so material girl, living in a material world
by Aldlyn Kate Tomampo

A typical college student who puts liquid eye liner on her eyes, blush-on on her cheeks, and a gloss on her lips. Being a student who's allowance are not so big to buy all the things that she wants and all that she can do is drool to the things that her big eyes wants to have.
I am not that materialistic that's why it is not so hard for me to think of the tangible stuffs that I valued the most. First, is my laptop. An Asus model that was bought for me by my Dad for my 18th birthday. I am really valuing this because it is helping me to ease my boredom in my everyday life. Now a days, all of us has already an access through the internet that's why you can also communicate with them through this via facebook, twitter, tumblr and the like. My laptop also helps me do my paper works and some other school stuffs. And also, my laptop is my baby. It is really important to me because all my files are saved here. All my secrets are all here, that's why only few people can touch this.
Next, is my phone. It also helps me to communicate with other people by simply sending them messages or calling them. It is always with me, unlike my baby because she's kinda big and heavy. My phone also helps me to ease my boredom and my everyday stressed. I get personal messages and non-sense things from my friends and loved ones using my phone. My phone also lets me took some random pictures (I will buy an DSLR this summer, I'm just waiting for my money to be sent by my dad)
And last. Is my set of make-ups. Yeah. It is really important to me also, being a teenager and a college student requires looking good in front of the people. So, yah. These are the things that I valued the most. Losing one of these three might 'cause me brain damages. Loljk. :))

Party like it's 2011 :">

"Celebrate it with food, drinks, good music and your boombastic family!"
by Aldlyn Kate Tomampo

December 31, 2010. I woke up at around 7am. Weird. This vacation kasi I started waking up late. Mga around 11am ako lagi nagigising, kaya nagtaka ko sa sarili ko 'bat ako gumising ng ganito kaaga nung time na yun. Pinilit kong matulog ulit, pero di na kaya. So, to get it started. I went downstairs to talk to mom. She's nowhere, and all I can see was vegetables on the table. I know what's it for so I started chopping na. It's for our handa in Media Noche kasi, and I will be cooking Mixed Veggies for the side dish. :) So there. After I've chopped the vegetables, I started cooking. Nung natapos na, spagetti naman ni-next ko. Then, I've fried the chicken.
Okay. I was the one who cooked all the foods. 7pm..
I was sooooooo dizzy, tired and iritated. After cooking, I prepared the table, put the foods, and arranged it. I waited for my sister for the pizza, then kumain ako ng konti kasi di ko na makaya yung hilo ko. After eating, I took a bath and fixed myself. I got jealous kasi to my mom and sisters, ang gaganda na kasi nila tapos ako mukhang dugyot na kakaluto. :p So there. After fixing myself, I took the camera and started taking pictures.
I am so fond of taking pictures while my sister took the laptop, she wants us to strike a pose in front of the webcam so, here it is.
We want these to send to Papa via email that's why we took a gazillion. Hey, it's new year naman so, pagbigyan! :))) And then, after our picture taking. We then start to eat. I mean. EAT! Literally. As in, we really did ATE a lot! To the point na 'di na kami makahinga lahat sa busog at sa kakatawa! Saya eh.
After our kainan session, we started goofing around and waited for 12am. Meanwhile, we lighted some of our lusis and pop pops (yun lang kasi pwede naming sindihan eh. Pare pareho kaming takot mabawasan ang finggers namin.) :p
Happy New Year! >:D<
We hugged each other and toasts our glass wines! Happy 2011 to u guise! It is very amazing to celebrate your new year with your family. I am really very happy that we waited for 2011 together now. Dati kasi, palagi kaming kulang. Atleast ngayon, kahit paano eh magkakasama na kami. Wala nga lang si Papa 'cause he is a seaman. So ayun. I think, were used to it. :(
We sang at our videoke machine till 4am. Namaga nga lalamunan ko kakakanta eh! Hahaha! I also finished a bottle of wine, so while singing I was already dizzy, tipsy and sleepy. :))
January 1, 2011. We went to our uncle's house at Bloomfields in Fairview. We just ate and have a little chitchat with cousins, titas and titos. We also got our aguinaldos. Konti nga kita eh, pero okay lang. Hey! I've got the new 50 and 20 peso bill! :)

Later, we went to SM Annex and bought dq icecream. Had a little walks, then go home.
So yah, I guess that's how we roll and celebrated our 2011. :))

Hey! It's Christmas, not Xmas.

"It's not just on the 25th of December, it's almost everyday."
by Aldlyn Kate Tomampo
It's been a long, tiring but a very happy holiday vacation for me and my family. On the 24th of December which we call the Christmas Eve, we went to Caloocan to celebrate our Christmas with my relatives. I really love the feeling when me, mom and my sisters have this little bonding at our car. I put the speaker's volume up and started to dance and sing in my place. At around 10am, were already at NLEX when my sister gave me the camera and told me to take some pictures.
Later, when we arrived, uhh. We just did nothing. Hahaha! My relatives are busy cooking foods for the Noche Buena. So, my cousins and I just goof around. They watched movies while I was busy facebook-ing and tumblr-ing. Then, I got bored and started to take again some pictures of myself. Vanity, I know. Sorry.

Then, my Swedish cousin come up and get his cards. He wanted to show me his magic tricks. I'm bored so, I'd let him.

After his magic act, I was like "uuhh. okay." Hahaha! He was, I think disappointed with my reaction and later, I clap and said "bravo, bravo!" Hahaha. :))Then. We waited for hours, and I helped mom preparing the table. I also run errands. By 10:30pm, I felt so dizzy and hungry that's why I started pigging out. After, mom and I started to take some pictures.
My relatives started showing up and started eating, dancing, singing, chatting, some are already snoring. Hahaha! Then, we started giving gifts. They have this thing called "Monito, monita." Hind kami kasali dun, kasi malayo kami para sa bunutan (we live in Bulacan.) Pero okay lang naman kasi my natatanggap din naman kaming gifts. My lolo, lola, titas and titos also gave their Aguinaldos to us. I think I've got 2thousand. Hoorah! Hahahaha! :)))) When it's already 12am, we greeted each other Merry Christmas. Kiss, huggs and manos. Then, we started dancing. Grabe! Pawis na pawis kaming magpipinsan sa ginawa namin! We closed the lights because we had this thing calledt "laser lights." Then, my sister and our Swedish cousin had a showdown. All of us are clapping and shouting to them! :))
We have had fun! Super fun! Many gifts, and money. A fun filled day with my relatives. Then, at around 4am, we went back to Bulacan. On the 25th, we all woke up at around 3pm because were all tired of our celebration last night so, we just ate some of our handa then just chat with each other. Ah. I guess that's it!

Merry Christmas Everyone! :">

Everyone's Little Darling.

"It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere."
by Aldlyn Kate Tomampo

A girl who is very friendly and easy to get along with. One who doesn't want to be the enemy of anyone. An optimistic person. Her mom's best friend, a very responsible and understanding daughter. Darlene Juat Y Mendoza, prefers to be called Ayeen. Born on the 16th of August and that made her a Leo. 18. A Mass Communication student of Far Eastern University. Fun and witty person. A great talker and very attractive to the opposite sex, usually happy but when unhappy tends to be grouchy and childish. Has a really good voice. Loves to cook and read pocketbooks. Afraid of ghosts but really likes to watch horror movies.
Ayeen knows how to have fun, but when it comes to studies, she really knows how to manage her time. Deadlines are deadlines to her, she can balance her time and knows when to enjoy and to be serious.
She hates heartaches. She once felt the feeling before, and doesn't want to felt it again anymore. She prayed and wait for a long time, and finally. Love already comes her way again.
Smiling is her exercise, praying makes her feel good inside. She dreams to be a well known journalist someday, and makes her parents very proud of her.

Modernized Bedroom for Teenies

By Aldlyn Kate Tomampo
Teenager’s bedroom  nowadays are centred around sophisticated, modern or “cool” designs. It must be fun, fresh and easy to change whenever you get bored on the design that you have. It should also pass teenagers according to their taste and needs. Use a little imagination and creativity to create a such bedroom that teenagers will love and cherish.

Inspiration
If you have painted, carpeted and added your furniture, it still might not match your personality. You will need inspiration for your room, to get inspiration you could:
Look at magazines and cut out furniture and rooms and paste them onto a board for inspiration.
Watch teen films or just any film which might give you inspiration on your room.
If you are arty draw out what you want your room to be like.

Use the colour that you want.
Paint isn't very expensive and it makes a room look completely different. Don't just stick to plain old white, try some darker colors. Pick a shade of your favorite color and use that. You could even paint the ceiling if you want to, the same color as the walls or any other interesting hue. If you love the colour blue paint your room blue, build you room around what you like. You could paint it or wallpaper. You could have a feature wall, or you could paint certain walls different colours. Here are some of the suggested colours for different gender:
Colors for Teen Girl Room
• Green
• Pink
• Purple
• Turquoise
• Orange
• White

Colors for Teen Boy Rooms
• Green
• Navy
• Sky Blue
• Grey
• Brown
• Red

Furniture
Depending on what theme you are going with. If you are going for vintage - go to thrift stores and buy quite cheap furniture, it will be one of a kind. If you wanted an elegant theme, try matching all the wood in the room.

Fabrics
Go to a thrift store and get some old scarves that you like the look of and tack them to your ceiling by the corners. They will add a softer look to the room. You can also hang old fabric on the walls. Another idea is to get your friends to sign a T-shirt for an event, like camp or a soccer team. Hang the shirt on the wall, along with a group photo of all the people involved.

Beds
Get the right comfort. You might want to look in on latex mattresses and spring beds with fewer inner coil springs integrated. Latex beds are usually incorporated with 4 pounds of density which is why the lushness and the firmness of the mattress surface are just right for a person's needs. In addition to that, latex mattresses are health friendly. These beds will not trigger allergic reactions since the materials used are all-natural. Inner coil beds with fewer springs in it are usually better since it provides a firmer top. This will give more support to the body as opposed to the plusher comfort of a mattress with a lot of coils.

 Pillows
There's nothing like some soft pillows or cushions to sit on when you invite a bunch of friends over for a video night. Why not have some that bring back good memories? Take all your old shirts that you can no longer wear (too small, holes, etc.) and cut out the front. Measure a square around the design and cut that out. Sew, or have a mother sew, four of these squares together and then cut out a square of an old sheet that is the same size as your pillow front. Sew the right sides of the two squares together and leave an opening along one edge. Stuff it full of batting and hand stitch the hole up. Presto! A memory pillow that will look as great as it will feel!

Curtains
Curtains add a lot to a room. You can buy them from a store, readymade, or you can design your own. Once again, thrift shops are the perfect place to shop. Find some old scarves and drape them from your curtain rods, or adjust some funky old curtains to fit your window. Sheets can always be hemmed to fit your windows and they come in endless patterns and colours.

Murals
If you or a friend is artistic, try adding some spice to the walls with a nice mural. It can be as big or as little as you want, from a ladybug in one corner to a full wall panorama. One girl I know painted the corner of her room to look like there was a gaping hole there, rebar and all sticking out, and you could see the green fields and a barn through the hole. You could also paint a favourite movie star onto the wall. Don't worry; you can always paint over it if you decide later that you don't like the effect.

Doorways
Doorways are easily jazzed up by hanging some of those bead curtains from the frame. They come in dozens of shapes now, from aliens and hearts, to stars and happy faces. Choose one that fits your personality.

Borders
Borders finish off your room. You can stencil borders, add a wallpaper border, or make your own with a collection. Adding a shelf around the top of your walls will provide a place to put larger items, or you can stick up pictures or movie tickets, or ticket stubs from fairs, etc. Pick something that you like and run with it. Borders don't have to stay by the ceiling either, they can run around the room at any level you please.

Reading Materials
Give people something to read when they walk into your room. Copy out some favourite sayings or poems or even stories and jokes onto coloured paper and stick them up around your room. You can find quotes and famous sayings on the Internet or at the library.

Warnings:
·         Stay away from pastels
·         Stay away from white wood furniture

Teenagers will definitely spend his/her time inside this room. Modernized, colorful, spacious.
